Today, President Donald Trump signed into law H.R. 1569, a bill introduced by Congressman Tom O'Halleran (AZ-01) to amend Title 28 of U.S. Code and expand the list of locations in which court may be held to include the cities of Flagstaff and Yuma.

"For too long, rural America has been left on the backburner. Up until now, hardworking Arizonans in Flagstaff and Yuma did not have full access to our federal judicial system," said O'Halleran. "I'm pleased President Trump has signed this important bill into law so that rural residents will no longer have to drive hundreds of miles to access their court system."

Prior to the passage of Rep. O'Halleran's legislation, federal district court proceedings were only held in Globe, Phoenix, Prescott, and Tucson, meaning many rural Arizonans had to travel long distances for hearings and trials.

"This commonsense legislation will ease the burden placed on many of Arizona's rural residents, as well as strengthen tribal sovereignty," continued O'Halleran. "This bipartisan effort from the entire Arizona delegation is proof positive that when we work across the aisle, we can accomplish real goals and improve the lives of our constituents."

Companion legislation was introduced in the Senate earlier this year by Senator Martha McSally and cosponsored by Senator Kyrsten Sinema.
